Out with the old light and in with the "new to me" light! :-)

Howdy all my friends! I'm in a grand and glorious mood today because I got rid of something that I've despised since the moment we moved into this house.

It's this~!

Now don't be offended if you have one of these in your house..... it's not that it's bad, it's just not me! I'm just not a big fan of brass or glass. (unless it's in the shape of a pretty, rainbow casting prism!) I have been waiting for quite some time to get this fixture down and today was the day!

I like the bare ceiling better than this fixture! LOL Have you ever seen a ladder this tall!! This is a two story open foyer and that thing almost reaches the ceiling!

Here are the two electricians putting up the "new to me" fixture. I got the light last summer at a garage sale for $35 bucks! It came out of a very pricey subdivision in a town near here......I like it when someone else pays big money for something and I get it cheap when they're tired of it! LOL I felt really bad for these guys....that fixture weighs about 40 pounds! They were making me a nervous wreck...........standing on a ladder two stories in the air holding a very awkward, 40 lb chandelier! I was SO glad when they finally got it up and were on the ground again!

Here's my new fixture all up and in place! I like it SO much better than the old one. All those drippy....."prisms" are all removable. I thought I might change them out at a later date to something different once I get tired of it this way, but for now I'm just enjoying the change! I'm going to borrow a ladder and fix that one crooked light....it'll bug me to the end of time if I don't straighten it up! (do you see it?) Little things like that just drive me crazy! lol

Hope all you guys and gals have a blessed week!

Vast improvement! And yes, I wouldn't have slept a wink either with the crooked light! It is hard to be a perfectionist, isn't it?

hey!

i came across this blog post http://www.dwellingsbydevore.com/2010/02/chandelier-reveal.html#comment-form & immediately thought of this post! i'm not for sure if it's the exact size chandelier as DeVore, but it would be cool if it was! =)

Beautiful! And what a great price. Did they have to put extra support in to hold it up? I have one to put up in my kitchen and I wondered if the weight would need additional support.

I hope this emails you to let you know there is another post on this older entry....you can make that old chandelier make pretty prisims in the sunlight. Simply cut out all the light fixture parts, leaving just the glass glove. You can attach any 'topper' with gorilla glue. Looks like the one there might work, you can paint out the gold...or if you put your new cloche out in the garden, it will weather on it's on. And this would make a beautiful cake cover, one of a kind. :-) I have some I've made on my blog/flickr...love them and anybody that sees them has really liked them too. Your home and blog are beautiful!
