Treasures and Trinkets Thursday.....Tea Time plus a story.. :-)

When my husband and I first got married we were poor as church mice...actually the church mice might have had more money! :) I loved to decorate then just as much as I do now, but it was hard because I would see things I loved, but couldn't afford to buy them. See this little porcelain tea set.............

I saw this at our local indoor flea market and immediately fell in love. I believe it was $12.00, for the set. Of course, it might as well been a million because I didn't have any extra money at the time. I would go visit this little tea set every week while stashing away a dollar here and a dollar there....always hoping no one had already bought it. (I believe my mom might have even given me a little money to go toward it...my memories slip as I get older! yikes!.............funny thing, my mom called after she read this post and said she didn't give me any money---so I came back to tell ya! lol)
One day I had finally saved up enough money for my little tea set and couldn't get to the flea market fast enough to claim my prize. When I got there, they had actually marked it down to $10.00! Yay! You thought I was going to say it was gone didn't you? :) It was actually pretty sad looking with all the multiple layers of filth that had gathered on it's surface over time, but when I took it home and began to clean it off, I knew I had found something I'd treasure forever. I began to uncover the sweet little floral details on the front of each piece.....aren't they just lovely?

With each swipe of the cloth, the shiny brilliance of this little set began to come forth, as if to say thanks for saving me from a life on a dirty shelf in the flea market.

This little tea set now sits on top of my armoire in my bedroom. (if you didn't see the makeover on my armoire you can find it here.) You know, my husband and I still aren't rich, but we could afford to just go buy a $12.00 tea set now without thinking about it twice, but somehow I don't think it would have the same impact on my heart. I think when you have to work hard to get something, you appreciate it so much more. That's why this little set, is one of my favorite treasures. :)

Do you have something you had to work hard for that you love? If so, tell me about it. :) Don't forget to link up something for today's Treasures and Trinkets Thursday!
Blessings

Melissa,

The only thing sweeter than this tea set is the story behind it. You are so right, my friend, things we have to work hard for are so much more appreciated. What a treasure. It's a good thing the flea market owner didn't clean it up. It would have cost more than $12!

Stop by and enter my giveaway.

Melissa what a wonderful story regarding your tea set. You are absolutely right I think the things you treasure the most are the ones you work the hardest to get. What a treasure you have.
