Treasures and Trinkets Thursday! - Our Fall Apple Pie from our Orchard Apples

Time for Treasures and Trinkets Thursday...
Link up anything that makes you happy, a craft you've been working on...whatever!
I am SO not picky!

I promised I would show you what we did with these apples
from the orchard.....

I made an apple pie!
Actually, the guys around here said it was the best one
I have ever made!
:0)
(maybe they just said that to butter me up to bake some more)
LOL

Anyway, here's what I did...

First I peeled and sliced those beauties up!
(you can put them in a bowl of water with a little lemon juice
if you're afraid they'll turn brown....I was working so fast, it wasn't a factor)

Preheat your oven to 425 degrees.

I put my bottom pie crust in my 9" pie pan....
and yes, I did cheat, I used the Pillsbury Pie Crust.
I'm a busy mom here....I have to cut myself some slack on occasion.
(don't hate me, ok?)
:)
(please ignore the brown spots on my crust...I dropped some cinnamon!)

For the filling I mixed up.....

6 cups thinly sliced, peeled apples (6 medium...but I used three HONKIN' sized apples~ lol)
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice

~ Can't ya just taste that sugar and cinnamon? ~

After it's all mixed up
just pile it in your pie crust.

Put the top crust on, fold the top crust edge under the bottom one
and crimp....just like grandma used to do.

:)

Here's where I did something a little different.
Usually you just poke 4 holes in the top....
well, I couldn't just poke a hole in my bee-u-tee-ful pie,
so I did this instead.....

Instant fall!

See how the edges of the cookie cutter, just gently cut
the pie crust.  It's all the way through in some spots
to allow the steam to come out, but not all over.
Yeah, yeah,  I poked the four holes in it too, but
you have to admit they are prettier with the leaf pattern around it!
;)

I ALWAYS cover the edges of my pie with foil,
so they don't over brown while baking.
I remove them for about the last 10-15 minutes of baking time.
Oh and you bake it for about 45 minutes total.

Here she is warm and bubbly out of the oven.

See how the leaf opened up during baking...

This pie lasted only one day...
and it was yummy with ice cream!

:-)

This has put in the mood to bake again...
gonna go see what I can get myself into!

HUGS!

WEll. THAT'S embarrassing. I'd remove if I could. The linky thing just kept linking around and around instead of returning me here. I have no idea what happened, or why this kind of stuff always happens to me. Blush.

Oh Missy....Looks so good! That was a really high pie! I love the leaf design steam holes! I always use the pie crust from the dairy dept. I like it better than homemade myself. Why put myself through the agony of rolling one out? I would love to have a piece right now...I have been sick since Sunday with a major chest cold...cough * cough. I could use some "comfort" food. Have a great day!~Hugs, Patti
