Let’s have some fun!
I’d like to introduce you to my nice, neat and pink Pantry, but first I have to show you the before pics!
I live in KY and I have to tell you I LOVE my KY Wildcats basketball, but I don’t want the UK blue color in my pantry…
LIKE THIS….!!
I think the people that lived here before us,
were going for a Mediterranean look,
but it’s just not me.
were going for a Mediterranean look,
but it’s just not me.
Here are a couple of before pics of my pantry,
just to give you an idea of what it looked like
before all my hard work!
just to give you an idea of what it looked like
before all my hard work!
What a mess!
To start my pantry, I removed everything from it.
(boy, did that create a disaster!)
(boy, did that create a disaster!)
I also went through and removed all
the expired items…
it’s a wonder I haven’t killed my family
with expired food!
OH MY!
(I threw away, about 10 cans of food…
this is the good stuff here!)

After removing everything, I was left with this….
OK, ya’ll see that hole up there in my pantry?
Well whoever built this house, thought it would be a great idea to put the main water shut off valve
??INSIDE the pantry! ???
Anyway, I had this gaping hole there,
and to top it off, it wasn’t even cut out
wide enough to get your hand on the handle to turn the water off,
So, here’s what I did.

Anyway, I had this gaping hole there,
and to top it off, it wasn’t even cut out
wide enough to get your hand on the handle to turn the water off,
So, here’s what I did.
I cut the hole out a little bigger to be able
to get to the handle,
then decided to build a door to
cover the opening…
to get to the handle,
then decided to build a door to
cover the opening…
I measured it out and found I needed an
8x10 door..
I had an epiphany!!

I had an epiphany!!
I figured if I needed an 8 x 10 door, why not
just use a picture frame that was that size!
I love it when my brain actually works!

I love it when my brain actually works!
Here’s the only 8 x 10 frame I could find around here,
and it fit perfectly!
and it fit perfectly!
(I know it’s a little fancy for a pantry,
but it was free!)
but it was free!)
I couldn’t leave it that color,
so I put my favorite 9 year old in the world to helping me!
See the blur of his hand..that boy is workin’!

I’ll show you how I finished that off here in a second,
but next I primed all the shelves…..
but next I primed all the shelves…..
The inside of the pantry……
and all the brackets….
After all the priming was done, I painted it
all out in Colonial Cream…the same paint I painted
my entire kitchen with.
(if you’d like to see how I did my kitchen,
go here, here, here and here)

I wanted something different in the back of the pantry,
so I chose the wallpaper I did my kitchen in..
it’s called Victorian Charm…a soothing, romantic
pink and cream toile…

I just measured the length of the back of my pantry, wet my paper and then booked it.
Booking is when you accordion fold your paper
so the glue sides are together and then you let it
sit for about 5 minutes to further activate the glue.
It looks like this….

Then I just hung the paper,
making sure it was straight in the corners.
I cut off the excess on the top and bottom

I repeated that process with my second piece,
making sure to match the pattern with the first piece.

After the shelves dried,
I bought some of this stuff in a creamy color.

I just rolled it out and cut it to fit!
AH, clean and bright!

Now to show you my little door, i.e. picture frame!
It went from this…..
To this…
I just put the piece of plexi-glass back in the frame,
cut out the pattern of the paper to match what was around it and put on a hinge!
Walla…a door!

Access to the water cut off,
but pretty to boot!

Now to install those shelves!
Tell me that doesn’t look better!!
It was SO pretty, I didn’t want to put food back in it!
But I did…sigh.
But I did…sigh.
I put my food back in “like” groups…
i.e. pasta with pasta sauces..
i.e. pasta with pasta sauces..
Then all my boxed items went together in one spot..
mostly rice and potatoes….
Can you tell we like our carbs around here?!

I did add these cute little jars from the Dollar General
to this shelf, to hold my potatoes, rice and pasta!
(thanks Traci for the heads up on these jars,
I LOVE them!!)

All soups and beans went together…
and then all my veggies! I did it like a grocery store,
they’re all lined up in rows, labels facing out.

I also re-did the over the door hanger
on the pantry door…

I added some cute tags I made and some
chalkboard tags I cut from Chalkboard vinyl.
(a GREAT invention!)

You did a lot of hard work, but wasn't it worth it? Do you go "aaahhh" like I do when I open my pantry door now? Love that you found the canisters at DG. Arent' they great?
Thanks for the shoutouts in your post.
Blessings!
It looks a whole lot better, brighter and more accessible. Love, Love, Love it! Man! I am so jealous now. hahaha... I want to have a pantry in our laundry room since it has a lot of space. So it will be laundry/mud rooom/ pantry. I don't know when that's going to happen. hahaha.. Thanks for sharing!

What a transformation! Love that toile wallpaper, and I really like your tin backsplash (even though it isn't part of the pantry).
Hello Missy
It's beautiful. I enjoyed looking at the before and after photos. You did an exquisite job and your son too. Congratulations to both!
Hugs & Blessings ~Wendy
this looks great! You did a LOT of work, girl! :)
LOVE me some organized spaces :)
whoa! you really went all out! It makes what I did yesterday (under my sink) look awful! :)
Your pantry looks fabulous. How much are those jars from Dollar General? They are really cute. I'm thinking I need some of those if the price is right.

Yay! It looks great, and the door out of the photo frame is genius!
This is fantastic!! What a genius - the frame - and so sweet to pull in your little boy's assistance! Makes him beautifully involved!
Wonderful!

This really turned out great! Wonderful efore/after photos!
Missy....What a difference you made in your pantry! Fabulous job! Doesn't it feel like a weight off your shoulder to purge, clean and organize in our homes?? Nice you have a little "helper"!~ :) Patti

Missy, this is really a great project! It looks fabulous and is so functional! So clever to use the frame for the door! Very inspiring!!
This is great Missy. You did a marvelous job. Congratulations. I'm sure it feels good to have it done and organized.
Morning! I came over from Beneath my Heart's Link Party.
The pantry looks great. Isn't it something how cans and boxes can so quickly become a mess?
I love it it looks great...found you from the party..we are link neighbors...have a great day...great to find you!
wow! that was a lot of work! i really like the creative way you addressed the water main cover-up! and it does look so great with the new paint & wallpaper!
Wow what a great job. I love the little picture frame door and would never have thought to wallpaper the inside of the closet. I love how everything is all lined up and easily accesible.
what an AWESOME job you did! looks so great!
blessings,
aimee
Quite the transformation indeed! Looks great!
I'm visiting from The Shabby Chic Cottage. I love your toile wallpaper--and the picture frame idea is GENIUS! Thanks for sharing.
Wow girl, that looks good!! I really need to do the same thing.. my pantry is lined with pink and blue 1960's wallpaper and trimmed in blue, its bad!!
I'm drooling! Hiding that little hole with a picture frame was such a cute idea! Who says your pantry can't be gorgeous too? And the OCDer inside of me is in love with the neatly arranged, label out cans. Great job!
Please email me your mailing address so I can get your prize in the mail. :)

That looks so good! I've GOT to work on mine. Love the glass containers. They're so pretty and the chalkboard vinyl is AWESOME!
There is something so magical about an organized pantry! I absolutely love it - although I think I'd be so tempted to look in at it all the time I'd keep using a "getting a snack" as an excuse. ;)
Looks amazing!!! Where did you get the glass jars for your potatoes, pasta, & rice storage?
Wow! Night and Day. And can I ask about the fabric used to cover the furnace in the pantry. It was lovely. thank you.
Hey! I know this post is over a year old but I just have to say you totally cracked me up with your expired cans and killing your family. I cleaned my pantry yesterday an I found some expired cans and I thought the SAME thing! SCARY! Yours looks fabulous! I wish I had wooden shelves not wire. I love yours!
this looks great! You did a great job, girl! :)
