I decided to decorate my mantle for fall this year in greens, blues and vintage ironstone.…who said you have to use brown and orange?! :0)
See the old lantern? That was my great grandfather’s barn lantern….he would use it every morning to go to the barn and check on what was going on around the farm. I love using things from my family! The ironstone bowl was a purchase from a friend after they dissolved her mother in laws estate…it’s so old and I adore it!
The old windows behind the ironstone pots came from the old 1916 house I got to go through and glean things from. They were the old transom windows above the doors…I grabbed three of them! (ok..I didn’t grab them, I took a ladder and had to painstakingly remove them with a screwdriver…but it was SO worth it!)
The old window that’s behind the wreath was a gift from my mom. She was in line at the bank and a guy had a truck bed full of old windows. Oh YES SHE DID…she rolled down her window and asked him what he was going to do with them…he was going to throw them away! She took 10!
The old platter was my grandma’s….my mom gave it to me.
I got the little wooden box and milk bottle from a tag sale…I think I paid a buck a piece for them. I got the old blue ball jar from my mom…it’s filled with vintage buttons. Oh how I love old buttons!
I just love my fall mantle!
How are you decorating for fall?
I’m linking up with Layla’s Mantle linky party over at The Lettered Cottage!

What a charming mantle! Love the apple wreath. I'm not in love with orange myself. This is a refreshing vignette. I love the stories behind every piece, especially the one of your mother nabbing those windows...what a hoot!
Love the mantle!!
Beautiful Missy!
Your mantel looks beautiful! :) I love it all, but mostly the sentimental stuff like your grandpa's old barn lantern! how special!

ps not decorating for fall. Never do. ;)
I love it! It says, "Come Home", to me, and that's kinda the way I feel about fall. It is so neat the way you get to use so many of your mom and grandparents belongings. That makes it even more special! Beautiful! Gail
Your mantle is beautiful Missy! Love the wreath with the window behind it and the white ironstone! I have not done my mantle yet...maybe tomorrow. I did however make your banana bread recipe and it was a hit! Moist and delicious!~Hugs, Patti
Ok, that's like the coolest mantel ever, with the greatest story to match! I love the greens and whites and everything about it. And that old lantern, whoa... how completely cool. You can almost feel what it would be like to light that lantern, and go out early early in the morning to do chores.

Very nice to see something other than "traditional" colors! For example,I love my Xmas trees: one done in pinks and one in bronze and gold...kinda different. That's why your mantle is so cool! Different with great memories to match :-)
This is really lovely, Missy...such a charming farmhouse feeling! So nice you could you special pieces, too!
what beautiful pictures, thanks for sharing them!
a big hello from Spain,
elena
I LOVE all your ironstone and the lantern! I had to laugh because the traditional "fall" colors are my year round colors. :) Yep espresso brown, burnt orange, cream/ironstone white, and shades of aqua are prevalent in our home all year round. So it is nice to see something other than the "traditional" autumn colors used! Very nicely done! (its kinda funny as I HATED orange as a kid but love it now! ha ha!)
Your home looks cozy and inviting... someplace where the "visitor" feels right at home!
Very pretty Missy! I love the colors and vignette.
Beautiful mantel! So glad you shared it! Thought you might like to know I featured it on my blog today! Hope you'll stop by!

Oh Missy, I love the way your mantle turned out, But green is one of my favorite colors. Not sure if you knew this, but we put our house up for sale...so I am not even putting up fall decor.
See ya on twitter,
